Abstract
Although acylation of Wnts is typically thought to be essential for both production and biological activity, Speer et al. show that several Wnts retain some signaling activity when the acylation site is mutated. Acylation dependence varies with the Wnt and the biological context, suggesting a modulatory (rather than essential) role.
