Abstract

Democracy gains new contours with the space provided by the internet. Under this scenario, where countless affairs are battled and where the voice of citizens gain weight, power is sowed. The following article aims to evaluate some of the aspects brought by the digital scenario regarding the exercise of power, such as the inclusion and education of the citizen, as well as the increase of environments for debate and state control. A hypothetical-deductive fallibilistic method was used, in which hypotheses were formulated and tested through a reality check, together with bibliographical and jurisprudential research. As a result, it was noticed that, to ensure equality, it is important not only to ensure digital inclusion but also education so that debates are held with political consciousness, transparency, and honesty, observing the same rules as for dialogues, such as those that require deliberation and discussion of key issues for social expression. Moreover, because it enables citizen manifestation, the State must create channels that enable a more active participation. This involvement does not necessarily imply the attenuation of the representative character of democracy, but it will increase its legitimacy. Another aspect of the issue presented is regarding the conduct of electoral campaigns in which the imposition of rules, such as those contemplated in electoral legislation, is crucial to prevent the abuse of economic and political power from structuring the dispute. It is concluded that there is a need to increase digital political awareness, in several aspects, so that democracy can develop in the digital environment.
