Abstract

Cystoseira balearica has two growing periods, losing its branches twice a year (in late summer and in winter). An average plant produces 2.4 g C yr-1; >90% of this biomass enters the ecosystem in the form of dead organic remains. This represented 3.7 t C for the whole population of C. balearica in Revellata Bay near Calvi. -from Authors
