Abstract

Buenos Aires transformou-se numa das principais metrópoles do mundo, como capital de um país que caracterizou-se por ser um dos principais exportadores agrários. O paradoxo de uma sociedade urbana num país agrário marcou profundamente a paisagem urbana, a política e a cultura da cidade. Um estudo prospectivo da cidade, portanto, deverá partir do modo pelo qual a contradição histórica influiu na cultura e nos hábitos políticos de Buenos Aires, criando, em boa medida, a singularidade que caracteriza a história argentina deste século.Buenos Aires became one of the main cities in the world as the capital of an agrarian exportation country. The paradox of an urban society in an agrarian country was deeply felt in the urban landscape, the politics and culture of this city. A study in prospect of the town must therefore bear as a starting point the form in wich historical contradiction influenced cultural and political habits in Buenos Aires, wich were largely responsible for creating the singular character of Argentine history in this century.
