INTRODUCTION Thyroid malignancy is the most common endocrine malignancy. The worldwide incidence of thyroid cancer is approximately 140,000 (1). Recently, in some regions of the world the incidence of thyroid cancer has been increasing. Evidence, however, supports that the increase in incidence appears to be due to improved detection rather than an increase in the true occurrence, and may reflect differences in access to healthcare (2).
