Monodispersed polymer colloids with aldehyde and acetal functionalities, introduced by the macromonomer technique, were synthesized by a two-step emulsion polymerization process. The latex samples so formed were chosen as the polymetric support to carry out covalent coupling with the antibody IgG anti-C reactive protein, to test the utility of the latex-protein complexes formed in immunoassays. More than the 45% of the initially linked protein was covalently coupled in the acetal latex samples. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
