Abstract

This article seeks to position black women in the context of the traditional-bodily actions of African mothers in Brazil, taking as a basis the actions of capoeiristas women from the beginning of the twentieth century, which can be incorporated into the legacy of social movements in view of fight against racism and sexism. Equally important, we understand capoeira itself as a social movement that has acted in confronting the expressions of violence, promoting, in black corporealities, aspects of community formation capable of transiting and orienting new reflections on other political practices and their organizational forms. By taking the organization of these capoeiristas as feminist malts, it is reaffirmed that they impose themselves within the complex scenario of current capoeiragem, from the intersectional tensions of race, gender, social class and sexuality, among other markers of inequalities.
