Abstract

Within this paper, we present a case study on the potential CO2 emission savings related to the employment of reusable packaging in the Courier, Express, Parcel (CEP) sector. We show an a hypothetical, yet realistic example the potential savings when the delivery of empty boxes (packages) to shippers and the delivery of full boxes to customers is combined with each other. In addition, the number of waste collection tours for paper/cardboard can be reduced. A reduction of up to 90% of transport related CO2 emissions seems to be realistic.
