The article presents an overview of 3S technology application studies and prospects for 3S technology application in disaster risk management in the northern mountainous region of Vietnam. The study uses the document review method and builds an experimental research model by GIS spatial analysis method, data mining method from satellite images, combined with positioning equipment. 3S technology shows great promise in disaster management, assessment and warning in mountainous areas, especially the online warning model based on artificial intelligence and smart applications on mobile phones. This is a research direction with high practicality, accuracy and applicability. Experimental research model applying 3S technology to build landslide risk map in Lai Chau province has identified 753.62 km2 (accounting for 8.31%) with very high landslide risk and 1633.29 km2 (accounting for 18 01%) have a high risk of landslides. In areas with high and very high risk of landslides, the study tested the installation of online landslide warning devices, which help prevent and mitigate damage caused by landslides.
