A hollow-type ordered mesoporous C supported Pt catalyst with a 3-dimensional (3-D) pore structure (Pt/CMK-9) was applied to aq. phase reforming of polyols for H prodn. The catalysts and supports were characterized via x-ray powder diffraction patterns, TEM, N2 sorption, and CO chemisorption techniques. The effects of Pt loading, polyol type, and reaction conditions on APR over Pt/CMK-9 catalysts were studied. Various polyols, ethylene glycol (EG), glycerol, and sorbitol were used as feedstocks for the APR system. The highest H prodn. rate among the different Pt loadings on an APR of 10% EG was obsd. for the catalyst with a Pt loading of 7% with 83.3 cc min-1 g-1cat. The H yield increased in proportion to the reaction temp., but decreased with the increase in the C no. of the polyol and wt. hourly space velocity. [on SciFinder(R)]
