Abstract

Participatory Learning and Action, (for-merly PLA Notes and RRA Notes), is pub-lished three times a year in April, August, and December. Established in 1988 by the Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Livelihoods Programme (SARLs) of the In-ternational Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), Participatory Learning and Action enables practition-ers of participatory methodologies from around the world to share their field ex-periences, conceptual reflections, and methodological innovations. The series is informal and seeks to publish frank ac-counts, address issues of practical and im-mediate value, encourage innovation, and act as a 'voice from the field'. We are grateful to the Swedish Inter-national Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) for their financial support. Thanks also to the Institute for Development Studies (IDS) for their additional support for this special issue.
