Abstract

An account of the world distribution of Polytrichum commune is given. Attention is drawn to the variable form of the individual plant and the colony. Aspects of water relations are discussed with relevance to growth, reproductive behaviour and phenology. A short account of spore dispersal and of establishment of the plant in the field is given. © 1971 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
