Abstract

Histopathologic changes in diseased tissues may render them inhospitable to engraftment by transplanted stem cells. A recent report in Nature Medicine (Gargioli et al., 2008) demonstrates that pretreatment of dystrophic mouse muscles with tissue-modifying factors leads to reduced fibrosis, increased vascularity, and enhanced stem cell engraftment. © 2008 Elsevier Inc.
