Abstract

Some of the greatest needs for hospice families come with the least amount of notice. In these situations, hospice volunteers are critical to helping the hospice team to best serve the patient and family. In 1994, Hospice of the Hills asked patient care volunteers if they would be willing to participate in an on-call volunteer program. The program has been a great success and has received accolades from hospice families, medical staff, the state volunteer association, and a salute from the local daily newspaper.
