Biological Properties of 20-Isocholesterol

Abstract

(20, S)-Cholest-5-en-3β-ol(20-isocholesterol) was chemically prepared from bisnorcholenic acid. Incubation of cytochrome P-450scc with 20-isocholesterol produced no pregnenolone. 20-Isocholesterol did not satisfy the silkworm sterol requirement. Liposomes containing cholesterol or 20-isocholesterol behaved similarly when examined either by differential scanning calorimetry, or for permeation of carboxyfluorescein from the liposomes. © 1983, The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan.
