Abstract

Two macrochelid species were collected from the body surface of Trox sugayai (Coleoptera: Trogidae) on Amami-Oshima Island, Japan. One of them is described as new to the science under a name Macrocheles amamiensis. This new species is very similar to some congeners previously recorded from Trox beetles, but is clearly distinguished by the ornamentation and setae of dorsal and sternal shields.
