COREA DE SYDENHAM

Abstract

30 cases of Sydenham's chorea seen in a 4 yr period are analyzed. Examination showed that 22 of these cases were single chorea, 8 with rheumatic symptoms, 6 with carditis and 2 with migratory polyarthritis. Of the 30 patients, 17 had a single attack and 13 recurrent attacks, mostly not related with irregularities in the antistreptococcal prophylaxis. Only 12 cases showed significantly high ASO titers. No conclusions are drawn on the use of sedatives in the symptomatic treatment of the disease.
