Abstract

In the context of the independence revolution, the use of extracts and mentions of ancient authors in Chilean public speeches and writings acquired the function of legitimizing the separatist movement and republican political ideology (1810-1833). References to ancient authors allowed for the association of autonomist and republican proposals to the ideas and models of classical republicanism.
