Abstract

The article presents information on the Archive and Ingest Handling Test (AIHT) conducted for the Digital Knowledge Center in the Sheridan Libraries at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). The test gave JHU the opportunity to get more hands-on experience with the facilities of two open sources, Fedora and DSpace. The AIHT also explored the possibility of implementing a layer of abstraction, an application programming interface, over existing repository applications. It was found that separate command line applications for every DSpace and Fedora function was cumbersome, and the configuration information for the repositories should have been stored in one config file and referred to symbolically.
