Abstract

Species of Apenesia Westwood, from 29 sites along a latitudinal gradient in the Atlantic rain forest were studied. The following seven new species were described and illustrated: Apenesia pectinata sp. nov., A. atlantica sp. nov., A. perlonga sp. nov., A. exigua sp. nov., A. patens sp. nov., A. simplex sp. nov. and A. hepatica sp. nov. The female of A. elongata Evans was discovered and described. New distribution records are provided for fourteen previously described species: A. apicilata Azevedo & Batista, A. aurita Waichert & Azevedo, A. clypeata Leal & Azevedo, A. concavata Corrêa & Azevedo, A. crenutala (Kieffer), A. distincta Corrêa & Azevedo, A. elongata Evans, A. inca Evans, A. neotropica (Kieffer), A. photophila (Ogloblin), A. quadrata Evans, A. spinipes Evans, A. stricta Corrêa & Azevedo and A. transversa Evans. Apenesia is recorded for the first time from the states of Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe and Bahia.
