Abstract

Education has long been considered as a corner stone in economic development. The twenty-first century has brought new challenges and opportunities for higher education. In the wake of the transition from elitist to mass education, universities worldwide are under pressure to enhance access and equity, on the one hand, and to maintain high standards of quality and excellence, on the other. Papua New Guinea Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a developing but an emerging economy in the South Pacific strenuously working to improvise its higher education in accordance with global changes. This chapter discusses the effect of globalization on education, and the impact of globalization on higher education, regulation and culture; and explores Papua New Guinea Papua New Guinea n higher education and its challenges. The chapter argues that higher education has been significantly impacted by globalization but institutions in PNG need to go further in making structural changes in response to it.
