The bee genus Palaeorhiza of New Guinea collected by the 3rd Archbold Ex-pedition was studied. Twenty-five species divided into 12 subgenera are re-ported for the 1st report. N e w taxa described in this paper are: Michener-apis, new subgenus ; Palaeorhiza (Michenerapis) bicolor, P. (Sphecogaster) rufescezs, P. (Heterorhiza) amabilis, P. (Heterorhiza) misoolensis, P. (Heterorhiza) grandis, P. (Het-erorhiza) moluccensis, P. (Anchirhiza) a$nis, P . (Palaeorhiza) nitens, P. (Zarhiopalea) facialis, P. (Eupalaeorhiza) melina, P. (Cnemidorhiza) jlavescens, P. (Cnemidorhiza) aemula, P. (Cnemidorhiza) decorata, P. (Cercorhiza) sin&lima, P. (Cercorhiza) pullata and P. (Cercorhiza) angusta, new species; and P. (Ceratorhiza) conica rufa, P. (Za-rhiopalea) facialis basirufa, P. (Eupalaeorhiza) papuana insularis, P. (Hadrorhiza) lieftincki mutata, and P. (Cercorhiza) gressittorum rubicunda, new subspecies. Eupalaeorhiza is regarded as a good subgenus. P. (Heterorhiza) enixa Cheesman is treated as a new synonym of P. (Heterorhiza) &aria (Smith).
