Abstract

Solid-state electrolytes could fundamentally alleviate the safety concerns for lithium-ion batteries. Meanwhile, solid electrolyte can provide the possibility to suppress lithium dendritic growth to enable the “holy grail” of lithium-metal batteries with high energy density. This review discusses the strategies for improving ionic conductivity of solid electrolytes and their stability with lithium-metal anodes. The critical challenges and future developments of high-performance all-solid-state lithium-metal batteries are also reviewed.
