Abstract

Extracts prepared from stigmatic tissue of Papaver rhoeas L. have been fractionated and monitored for S–gene product activity. A basic glycoprotein, with an apparent MW of 22 kDa, which exhibits the specific activity expected of a protein encoded by the self–incompatibility (S–) gene has been identified. Similar preparations using extracts from other tissues have revealed that this protein is unique to mature stigma tissue. Copyright © 1989, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
