Abstract
Clove leaves (Syzygium aromaticum) contain active compounds such as eugenol, flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and phenolics, which function as antibacterials and antiseptics. This study aimed to formulate a mouthwash based on clove leaf essential oil at concentrations of 0.5%, 1%, and 2%, and to evaluate its physical characteristics and stability. Evaluations were conducted on organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, and stability of the preparation for four weeks at different temperatures (4°C, 28°C, and in sunlight). The results showed that formulation F1 (0.5%) was the best preparation with good physical stability at room temperature (28°C), meeting organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, and viscosity standards. This study indicates that clove leaf essential oil has the potential to be developed as an active ingredient in natural mouthwash preparations.
