This article discusses the abandoned children at the Hospital de la Santa Creu in Barcelona and the nurses who breastfed them during the 15th century. It addresses three central subjects: the wet nurses and their main tasks in relation to the abandoned children, the boundaries of marginalization as a result of instability in the process of breastfeeding, and the potential emotional bonds established between the nurses and dependent children.
