Abstract
On Earth, among all Natural resources, soils are playing very important vital role for survival of many of living organisms. But insufficiency of the fertile soils are growing day by day to satisfy the requirements of the food, because of pollution, soil erosion, run-off and etc. at one side, Increasing per capita demand because of rapid growing population, increasing living standards conditions and many of such causes poses pressure on natural resources depletion, another side dumping of industrial effluents or wastes, use of various chemicals, agricultural runoffs, sewage wastes, etc. without any prior treatment are decreasing the quality of soil fertility, thereby reducing and getting poor quality food grains. In this quality characteristics of soil at Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, entitled by collecting surface samples at various locations and horizon of Guntur area. From each horizon of the different profiles soil samples were collected. From the sites of interest surface samples numbering fifty nine were collected randomly in 24 mandals, which covers total region of area. To assess the potentiality of soils (SQI) for irrigation practices various parameters were estimated, parameter named as pH (negative logarithm of hydrogen ion concentration), Electrical Conductivity – EC (dsm-1), Potassium – K ((kgk2oha-1), Phosphorus – P ((KgP2 O5 ha-1) and also various essential parameters CEC, ESP, etc., were analyzed.
