Identification of students' reasoning ability levels on the generalization indicator

Abstract

Reasoning ability has an important role in the thinking process of students to solve problems. One indicator of this ability is generalization. This study aims to identify the level of generalization of students. Mathematical reasoning test questions were given to students of grades IV and V of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah and then the answers were analyzed using the rubric level of mathematical reasoning to determine the extent to which students' ability to generalize. The participants in this study consisted of 80 students from an MI in Bandung City and 40 students from an MI in Bandung Regency who were students in grades IV and V. From the answers to the students' reasoning tests it was found that students were able to find patterns and explain known patterns. by using words. However, there are still difficulties in providing other examples of patterns that have been found and communicating known patterns with mathematical symbols.
