Abstract

Barbara Cassin revient sur les fondements et les enjeux philosophiques du Dictionnaire des intraduisibles ainsi que sur les grandes problématiques de la traduction. Rejetant l’idée d’un métalangage qui servirait de passerelle entre les différentes langues, elle définit un relativisme non subjectiviste, ou « comparatif dédié ». Elle évoque également dans cet entretien les projets de traduction du Vocabulaire européen des philosophies et la mise en place d’un Observatoire européen de la traduction.In this interview, Barbara Cassin considers the philosophical presuppositions and stakes of the Dictionary of Untranslatable Words, and adresses some of the main questions raised by the experience of translation. She rejects the idea of a metalanguage, which would allow the passage from one natural language to another, and puts forward a non subjectivist relativism instead. She also mentions the current projects for translating the European Vocabulary of philosophies and the creation of an European Observatory of Translation.
