Abstract

Artificial Intelligence is present in human imagination since Antiquity but is considered to have been founded as a research field only in 1956 during the Darthmouth Summer Research Project on Artificial Intelligence. While this workshop identified a set of tasks and approaches that are Artificial Intelligence, a strong definition, that maintains its accuracy over decades, has always remained elusive. In this chapter, we will explore the area of Artificial Intelligence Research, how AI is often defined, and then discuss possible other definitions.
