Breastfeeding Success in Adolescents and Influencing Factors: Literature Review

Abstract

Background: Breastfeeding in adolescence is a difficult thing for teenage mothers to do because of changes in the adjustment of tasks and roles of motherhood in their teens. Adolescent mothers to achieve successful breastfeeding need any factors that affect the success of breastfeeding in their teens. Objective: This literature study aims to determine the success factors of breastfeeding in adolescence. Method: The method used is literature review by searching for international and national articles through the PubMed and Google Scholar databases by entering keywords and being selected based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria and obtained 10 articles consisting of 6 articles from international journals and 4 articles from national journal. Results: There are 4 main factors in the success of breastfeeding in adolescence, namely maternal personal factors, infant factors, social factors, and cultural factors. So that in achieving the success of breastfeeding in adolescence, it is necessary to pay attention to the four main factors, namely the mother's personal factors, the baby's factors, social factors, and cultural factors. Conclusion: This study concludes that there are several factors that can affect the success of breastfeeding in adolescence.
