Abstract

The different characteristics of the internal friction peaks associated with fine‐grained grain boundaries and bamboo grain boundaries are compared in a quantitative manner. These include the marked difference in the shift of the position of the peak and the variation of relaxation strength of the peak with an increase of annealing temperature. Experiments are made with sheet, wire, and compact spring specimens with internal friction measured in torsional and bending vibration mode. The cause of the shift of the bamboo boundary peak as well as the mechanism of the peak are discussed. Copyright © 1989 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA
