Abstract

The sustainability and durability of infrastructure can be considered in terms of both structure and materials. At present, developed and most developing countries are facing the problem of aging infrastructure. And maintenance will produce high costs and reduce the economic benefits of infrastructure. Self-healing concrete can repair cracks or restore the strength of the structure, extending the service life of infrastructure. For improving the sustainability and durability of infrastructure, the working principle and development of Biological Concrete, Self Healing Fiber Concrete and Core-Shell System Based on Gelatin and Poly(Vinyl Alcohol) (PVA) for Concrete were studied in this paper. One practical application of self-healing concrete in China is analyzed. Finding self-healing concrete is an environmentally reliable way to improve the sustainability and durability of infrastructure.
