Abstract
Organizational resilience has become a central construct in contemporary management research as organizations increasingly operate under conditions of uncertainty, discontinuity, and repeated disruption. This study provides a structured review of preceding international studies on organizational resilience affecting organizational performance. The review examines how organizational resilience has been conceptualized, what antecedent conditions enable its development, and through what mechanisms it influences performance outcomes. Drawing on scholarship in strategic management, organizational learning, leadership, absorptive capacity, and dynamic capabilities, this paper synthesizes a broad body of literature and argues that organizational resilience should be understood not merely as recovery from adversity but as a multidimensional organizational capability involving anticipation, absorption, coping, adaptation, and renewal. Prior studies consistently suggest that resilience positively affects both financial and non-financial performance by maintaining operational continuity, reducing vulnerability, accelerating recovery, enabling strategic flexibility, and supporting innovation under uncertainty. The literature further indicates that dynamic capabilities, absorptive capacity, organizational learning, and leadership capability serve as major antecedents of resilience and amplify its performance effects. This paper concludes that organizational resilience should be treated as a strategic capability embedded in routines, structures, managerial systems, and organizational culture rather than as a temporary crisis-response mechanism. The study closes by presenting implications for theory development, managerial practice, and future empirical research.
