Alignment of hexatic Langmuir monolayers under shear

Abstract

In this experimental study, shear was applied to monolayers in the Ov phase. A strong coupling between the structure of Langmuir monolayers in the Ov phase with the external shear flow was observed. Quantitative analysis showed that the change in structure is consistent with an alignment of the degenerate symmetry lines of the underlying molecular lattice with the flow.
