Management of physical ill health in a psychiatric setting

Abstract

Comments on the article by R. M. Phillpott (see record [rid]1991-04526-001[/rid]) concerning the relationship between physical and affective disorders in the elderly. The very high degree of physical morbidity was confirmed in a survey carried out by the current author using 19 patients on a dementia ward and 22 patients on a functional ward. Generally, a medical opinion may only be obtained by specific referral rather than regular liaison attendance or joint psychogeriatric–geriatric assessments. The current author concludes that the management of physical ill health in the psychiatric setting needs further investigation. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2014 APA, all rights reserved)
