Abstract

It is a sobering thought that a rise in the standard of oral hygiene throughout the country would probably help more than any other measure to reduce the incidence of streptococcal infective endocarditis. If we can accomplish this and prophylaxis too then endocarditis should become a rare disease. And, even more important, if we could achieve earlier diagnosis and treatment it need not still be a fatal one.
