Abstract

In welche Richtungen ? Although several studies have been conducted on the Bell Beaker Culture, this period remains badly defined as a whole. Its important geographical distribution poses several questions : does this culture represent an ideology ? Populations ? Migrations of one or several human groups ? In one or several waves ? We shall try to answer these questions based on the study of Bell Beaker common ware. The pottery was described by type : 83 types were recorded in total. Eight hundred settlements were studied, in the following eleven countries : Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Slovaquia and Switzerland. We observed that the pottery sets were different from region to another, and we were able to define three distinct cultural domains : the eastern, northern and southern domains.
