Abstract
Atmospheric turbulence-induced wavefront distortion in free-space optical communications can be corrected using coherent detection and digital signal processing, instead of adaptive optics. It was found that the performance of the coherent arrayed receivers can approach that of the system without any wavefront distortion. Wavefront correction for 10Gbit/s binary phase-shift keying signals was demonstrated in experiment. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2007.
