The article focuses on the Patron-Driven electronic book (e-book) Acquisition (PDA) project of the University of California (UC) San Diego Library. It is said that the PDA models support the opportunity for libraries to have a more direct and immediate engagement with the needs of library users. It notes that the first PDA pilot was provided through e-book library service provider EBL and relied on the parameters set by the Collection Coordinators Group of UC San Diego which included no guest access, unlimited browsing and short-term loan (STL) option. It adds that PDA has the potential to decrease the overall library expenditures for mainstream materials.
