Abstract

Nucleophilic addn. of PhSH and PhSO2H to 4-cyclopentene-1,3-dione (I) gave 98% cyclopentanediones II (R = PhS, PhSO2). Addn. of HSCH2CH2OH to I in CHCl3 contg. Et3N and BF3Et2O gave 25% cyclopentoxathiane III. [on SciFinder(R)]
