Investigated the effects of therapeutic doses of tricyclic antidepressants on the EKGs of 18 patients with major depressive disorder. All baseline EKGs were normal. Ss were treated with amitriptyline, clomipramine, desipramine, dosulepin, or imipramine (150-230 mg/day). Results show a significant increase of heart rate. One patient showed a PR-interval of .22 sec, 5 patients a QRS-interval of .1 sec, 8 patients a QTc-interval of greater than .445 sec, and 3 patients a heart rate greater than 100 bpm.
