Abstract

Of 750 dromedary serum samples, 29 (3.9%) were positive in the buffered acidified plate antigen test (BAPA) and 37 (4.9%) were positive to Rose Bengal plate test (RBPT) for Brucella. The incidence of brucellosis was higher for camels aged more than 5 years old (20 camels) and those between 4-5 years old (5) than in younger animals. 37 serum samples positive to RBPT, were examined by both serum tube agglutination and complement fixation tests. Brucella organisms were isolated from 20 of 23 serologically positive female camels (87.0%). Morphological, cultural, biochemical and serological examination of the isolated Brucella strains identified B. abortus serotype 1 (55.0%) and serotype 7 (30.0%), and B. melitensis serotype 3 (15.0%).
