Abstract

An ability to communicate across cultures and languages has become an essential attribute for life in a globalised world. According to Australian government statistics, more than 120,000 people from 190 different countries became new citizens of Australia in 2013 (Australian Government Department of Immigration and Border Protection, 2014).
