Flavonoids from the genus Solanum

Abstract

In Brazil, the Solanaceae family has 31 genus and about 500 native species. The genus Solanum is the largest and most complex of his family. It is estimated that the genus consists about 1500 species and 5000 epithets that are located in tropical and subtropical regions of the world, South America being the center of greatest diversity of his kind. The class of secondary metabolites found in most species of the genus Solanum are flavonoids and alkaloids on which the flavonoids are involved in a variety of biological processes and can be used as taxonomic markers because in some species specificity. With purpose to contribute as a tool to the genus chemosystematics, this paper is a flavonoid review described in the literature, with a register of 88 substances since 2002.
