Need and responsiveness in the treatment of a severely traumatized patient: A relational perspective

Abstract

Severely traumatized patients with disturbances in attachment style may exhibit poor functioning and a great deal of dependency upon the therapist. Insights from relational theories are utilized in an attempt to explore what such patients truly need from a therapist, and a case illustrating the complexities of this situation is presented.
