Abstract
Method of Levels (MOL) is a transdiagnostic approach to Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. It is based on the contributions of transdiagnostic processes in psychotherapy, and on Perceptual Control Theory (PCT) principles: "control", "conflict", and "reorganization". In the clinical setting, the direct application of these principles results in two therapeutic goals: (1) to facilitate the process of a detailed and focused exploration of a problem to the client; (2) to notice and explore "disruptions". When MOL was applied to a group of Spanish-speaking clients, they found MOL to be an effective and efficient approach, that facilitated an open exploration of their problems and experiences, MOL was also considered a means to self-discovery and self-knowledge. A brief clinical example is presented. MOL is a parsimonious approach to psychotherapy that facilitates therapeutic change thanks to its robust psychopathological model and simple implementation. Currently, MOL continues to accumulate evidence supporting its therapeutic effectiveness and efficiency.
