Abstract

A discussion with friends about whether we are close to a true metaverse got me thinking, maybe we have had metaverses for a long time. Immersive and interactive experiences with alternate realities have been around for more than 150 years. We may never declare "the metaverse"to be here because we keep demanding more fidelity as the technologies advance.
