Abstract

Though considerable advances have been made in the last ten years, the knowledge of normal cerebral metabolism is still small; consequently, the understanding of the effects of anesthetics in this metabolism is by no means complete. This review based on 130 references gives a good survey of what is known nowadays about the influence of anesthetics on brain oxygen consumption, glucose and protein metabolism and energy metabolism.
