Abstract

Recent trend of electrification of transportation sector will results into increase in electrical demand in conventional power grid. It will also result into more CO2 emission from conventional sources. Hence renewable solar powered EV charging station seems promising option to avoid burden on a power grid. This paper presents the simple methodology for sizing solar powered EV charging station. In addition to this, the economic analysis of solar power charging station is also carried out for considering Lithium ion and lead acid storage batteries. The level 2 AC charging station and DC charging station are considered for this purpose. Results clearly indicates that despite having high purchasing cost lithium-ion batteries are feasible choice as storage battery over its counter parts. Results also supports level 2 AC charging station are suitable for business office parking and where park time is 2-3 hours due to its low per unit cost.
